Opening Day saw the Orioles defeat the Los Angeles Angels 11-3 in their first home game of the 2024 campaign on March 28. They still have hopes of playing home playoff games at Oriole Park at Camden Yards after their last regular-season home game this afternoon.
In that vein, the O’s report for duty with the same magic number—three—that they had on Saturday, along with the same winning scenario. If they defeat Detroit and Seattle falls at Texas, they will secure a postseason berth today. It kicks off at 2:35 p.m. ET that game.
The Orioles (86-69) have seven games left and will go to Yankee Stadium for three games and Minnesota for three games to finish their season.
The Orioles will be participating in the postseason in consecutive years for the first time since 1996 and 1997 if they manage to secure a postseason berth.
They lost 6-4 to Detroit in 10 innings yesterday, so they must feel like they let one slip away. After trailing 4-2 in the bottom of the ninth inning, Gunnar Henderson’s two-run double brought the score to 4-4. Despite having runners at second and third with no outs, they were unable to score another run to eliminate the Tigers.
After 15 games, the Orioles have now dropped 10 of them, 6 of 9, 9 of 13, and 6 of 6. From September 2-4, when they captured two of three from the Chicago White Sox, they have now lost four straight series.
