Daniel Jones, the New York Giants’ starting quarterback, has been struggling significantly in the 2024 NFL season, and the numbers show that his performance is a major reason for the team’s lack of success. Despite signing a hefty four-year, $160 million extension in 2023, Jones has not lived up to the expectations placed on him. Through the first few games of the season, his inefficiency and mistakes are glaring, and these statistics reflect how he’s failing the Giants.

    ### Poor Passing Efficiency

One of the most telling statistics is Jones’ passer rating, which has been alarmingly low this season. Typically, elite quarterbacks boast passer ratings above 100, while competent starters hover around the 90s. However, Jones’ passer rating has been mired in the 70s or even lower, signaling his struggles to consistently deliver the ball accurately and make smart decisions under pressure. Through the first few games of the 2024 season, his completion percentage has also dipped into the mid-60s, a figure far too low for a quarterback expected to elevate his team. When compared to other QBs in the league, Jones is lagging behind in completion percentage, touchdowns, and yards per attempt, which shows his inability to sustain drives.

    ### Lack of Scoring

Perhaps the most critical indictment of Jones’ performance is the Giants’ inability to score. As the starting quarterback, Jones bears much of the responsibility for the offense’s output. The Giants have ranked near the bottom of the league in points per game, often struggling to put up even a single touchdown in many of their contests. Jones’ touchdown-to-interception ratio has been another problem. In past seasons, Jones had issues with turnovers, and this year has seen little improvement. He has thrown more interceptions than touchdowns through several games, an unforgivable stat for any starting quarterback. As of the latest data, he’s thrown just three touchdowns against six interceptions. This not only halts drives but often puts the Giants’ defense in difficult positions.

    ### Struggles Under Pressure

While the Giants’ offensive line has had its share of struggles, Jones’ inability to perform under pressure is a clear problem. According to advanced metrics, Jones has one of the worst quarterback ratings when under pressure, showing a complete lack of poise in the pocket. His decision-making becomes particularly questionable in these moments, as he either holds onto the ball too long, resulting in sacks, or forces throws into coverage, leading to turnovers. In fact, Jones has been sacked 15 times in just a few games—one of the highest totals in the league—and while some of that can be attributed to poor blocking, his inability to sense pressure and escape the pocket is equally to blame.

    ### Ineffective Deep Passing Game

The Giants have also struggled to generate explosive plays this season, and Jones’ lack of deep ball accuracy is a significant factor. Jones has attempted several deep passes, but his completion rate on those throws ranks among the worst in the league. Opposing defenses have recognized his limitations and have been more willing to stack the box, crowding the line of scrimmage and limiting the effectiveness of the Giants’ running game. Without the ability to threaten defenses deep, the offense has become predictable, and Jones’ ineffectiveness is directly contributing to that.

    ### Conclusion

Daniel Jones’ struggles this season are a major reason for the New York Giants’ underwhelming performance. From his poor passing efficiency to his inability to perform under pressure or generate explosive plays, the numbers show a quarterback who is not living up to the franchise expectations. For the Giants to turn things around, Jones will need to make significant improvements in his decision-making, accuracy, and overall leadership on the field.
