Jackson State University has secured a significant addition to its football program with the commitment of defensive back Khamauri Rogers, a former four-star recruit from Mississippi. Rogers announced his decision on Thursday, December 19, 2024, marking a notable acquisition for the Tigers.
Standing at 6 feet and weighing 175 pounds, Rogers was highly regarded coming out of high school. According to 247Sports, he was rated as the No. 5 player in Mississippi for the class of 2022. His collegiate journey began at the University of Miami, where he appeared in one game and recorded a tackle during his freshman year. Seeking opportunities closer to home, Rogers transferred to Mississippi State University at the end of the 2022 season. During his time with the Bulldogs, he participated in nine games but did not record any statistics and ultimately redshirted in 2023.
Rogers hails from Madison, Mississippi, and attended Holmes County Central High School. His high school career was distinguished, earning him a spot on the 2021 Clarion Ledger Dandy Dozen list, which recognizes the top high school football players in the state. Unfortunately, his senior season was marred by an ACL injury that limited his participation to just three games.
His commitment to Jackson State comes on the heels of the Tigers’ impressive 12-2 season, culminating in their first Celebration Bowl victory, a 28-7 win over South Carolina State. The addition of Rogers is expected to bolster a defensive unit that demonstrated remarkable resilience, allowing only 20 second-half points over the final eight games of the 2024 season.
Rogers’ decision to join Jackson State reflects a growing trend of talented athletes choosing Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) to continue their athletic and academic careers. His return to his home state and commitment to the Tigers not only enhances the team’s defensive backfield but also underscores the increasing appeal of HBCU programs in attracting top-tier talent.
As Jackson State prepares for the upcoming season, the integration of a player with Rogers’ pedigree and potential is anticipated to contribute significantly to the team’s pursuit of continued success on the field.
