Louisville Cardinals basketball has secured a significant commitment from five-star point guard Mikel Brown Jr., marking the first five-star recruit under head coach Pat Kelsey.
Brown, a 6-foot-3, 165-pound guard from DME Academy in Daytona Beach, Florida, is ranked as the No. 11 prospect in the ESPN 100 for the class of 2025 and is considered the No. 3 point guard nationally.
He chose Louisville over several prominent programs, including Alabama, Indiana, and Ole Miss.
The announcement was made during Louisville’s game against North Carolina at the KFC Yum! Center, where Brown was introduced to the crowd during a timeout.
Brown’s decision was influenced by the program’s energy and family environment, as well as Coach Kelsey’s loyalty and commitment to his staff and players.
During his time with Team Loaded NC on the Adidas 3SSB circuit, Brown averaged 24.2 points and 3.3 assists per game, shooting nearly 44% from beyond the arc.
He also represented USA Basketball at the FIBA U18 Americas, contributing to a gold medal victory with averages of 10.3 points, 5.2 assists, and 3.3 rebounds per game.
Brown’s advanced skill set, including deep shooting ability and proficiency in operating with screens, makes him a valuable addition to the Cardinals.
His commitment is expected to have a significant impact on Louisville’s future success, particularly in the point guard position.
This commitment is a pivotal moment for Coach Kelsey, who aims to transform Louisville into “Point Guard U.”
Brown is Louisville’s first commitment in the 2025 class and the second high school recruit since Kelsey took over, following ESPN 100 prospect Khani Rooths in the 2024 class.
His addition is anticipated to elevate the program’s competitiveness in the coming seasons.
