Notre Dame Football Land Nation’s Top Rising Star As Defensive Analyst Committed To Fighting Irish

Notre Dame Football has made a significant addition to its coaching staff by hiring Jevaughn Codlin as a defensive analyst. Codlin, previously the assistant secondary coach at West Virginia University, is recognized as a rising star in the coaching profession. His expertise is expected to bolster the Fighting Irish’s defensive strategies in the upcoming season.

Codlin’s coaching journey began at Emporia State, a Division II institution, where he served as an assistant defensive backs coach for two seasons. In February 2023, he advanced to West Virginia University, contributing to the development of the Mountaineers’ secondary. Notably, he played a role in coaching All-American cornerback Beanie Bishop during the 2023 season. citeturn0search4

His transition to Notre Dame comes at a pivotal time, following the departure of defensive analyst Mike Moon. Moon left to join former Notre Dame defensive coordinator Al Golden, who accepted the defensive coordinator position with the Cincinnati Bengals in January 2025. citeturn0news17 Golden’s tenure at Notre Dame was marked by a formidable defense that ranked fifth nationally in points allowed per game (15.5) during the 2024 season, culminating in an appearance in the College Football Playoff National Championship game. citeturn0news21

To fill the void left by Golden, Notre Dame appointed Chris Ash as the new defensive coordinator in early February 2025. Ash brings a wealth of experience from both collegiate and NFL coaching roles, including a head coaching stint at Rutgers and a national championship as defensive coordinator at Ohio State in 2014. citeturn0news24

Head Coach Marcus Freeman, entering his fourth year, has been proactive in assembling a coaching staff that combines seasoned expertise with emerging talent. The addition of Codlin aligns with this strategy, aiming to enhance the defensive unit’s performance. Codlin’s background as a former defensive back at Kansas Wesleyan University, coupled with his coaching acumen, positions him as a valuable asset to the Fighting Irish.

As the 2025 season approaches, Notre Dame’s defense is poised for a strong performance, supported by strategic coaching hires and a commitment to maintaining the program’s storied legacy.
