Florida WBB HC Kelly Rae Finley Reaffirmed Commitment Chooses Gators Women’s Basketball Committed Despite Lucrative Offers From Rivals Program

Kelly Rae Finley, the head coach of the Florida Gators women’s basketball team, has reaffirmed her commitment to the program, choosing to remain in Gainesville despite receiving lucrative offers from rival programs. Finley, who has been at the helm since the 2021-22 season, has been instrumental in revitalizing the Gators, leading them to multiple postseason appearances and securing top-tier recruiting classes.

In February 2022, Finley signed a five-year contract worth $3.7 million, underscoring the university’s confidence in her leadership. This contract, which extends through April 2027, includes a base salary of $450,000, with additional incentives and allowances that bring her annual compensation to $740,000 by March 2023. citeturn0search0

Under Finley’s guidance, the Gators have achieved significant milestones. The 2021-22 season marked the team’s first 20-win campaign since 2015-16, and they earned an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament for the first time in over five years. Finley’s strategic acumen and ability to develop talent have been pivotal in these accomplishments. citeturn0search5

Finley’s recruiting prowess is evident in her ability to attract top talent to Florida. Notably, she secured three McDonald’s All-American players within a two-year span, including Me’Arah O’Neal and Liv McGill for the 2024-25 season. This influx of elite talent has positioned the Gators as a formidable force in collegiate women’s basketball. citeturn0search5

Despite the allure of offers from other programs, Finley’s decision to stay reflects her dedication to the Gators and her belief in the team’s potential. Her commitment ensures continuity and stability, which are crucial for the program’s sustained success. As the Gators continue to build on their recent achievements, Finley’s leadership remains a cornerstone of their aspirations for excellence in the highly competitive Southeastern Conference.
