_Notre Dame Women’s Basketball Head Coach Niele Ivey Reacts to Tough Loss Against Florida State_
Notre Dame women’s basketball head coach Niele Ivey was visibly frustrated and disappointed after her team’s 86-81 defeat at the hands of Florida State. The Fighting Irish struggled on both ends of the court, with their offense sputtering at times and their defense unable to contain the Seminoles’ high-powered attack.
“I’m extremely disappointed in our performance tonight,” Coach Ivey said in her post-game press conference. “We didn’t execute on either end of the floor, and it cost us the game. We had too many mental lapses and breakdowns, and we just couldn’t seem to get into a rhythm.”
Notre Dame’s offense, which has been one of the team’s strengths all season, was held to just 38% shooting from the field, including a dismal 25% from three-point range. The Irish also struggled to take care of the ball, committing 16 turnovers that led to 22 Florida State points.
Defensively, the Irish were unable to contain the Seminoles’ potent offense, which shot 49% from the field and 43% from three-point range. Florida State also outrebounded Notre Dame 42-35, including a 15-10 advantage on the offensive glass.
“We just didn’t play with the level of toughness and intensity that we needed to,” Coach Ivey said. “We let Florida State dictate the pace of the game, and we paid the price for it. We have to learn from this loss and move forward, because we have a quick turnaround before our next game.”
Despite the tough loss, Coach Ivey remains confident in her team’s abilities and is looking forward to getting back on the court and competing again.
“We’ll bounce back from this,” she said. “We’ll regroup, refocus, and come out ready to play our next game.”
