Tuttle transferred to Michigan in 2023 as a graduate student after spending five seasons at Indiana. During the 2023 season, he appeared in six games, completing 15-of-17 passes for 130 yards and a touchdown. In 2024, he earned the starting quarterback position for the Wolverines’ road game against Illinois on October 19, where he completed 20-of-32 passes for 208 yards. Unfortunately, an injury sustained during that game led to his decision to medically retire from playing football.

In his retirement announcement, Tuttle cited ongoing health concerns, including a UCL repair in his throwing arm and multiple concussions, as factors influencing his decision to prioritize his well-being. citeturn0search1

Despite stepping away from playing, Tuttle expressed a strong desire to remain involved with the Michigan football program in a coaching capacity. His extensive collegiate experience and familiarity with the team’s dynamics make him a valuable addition to the coaching staff. Tuttle’s transition to coaching aligns with his long-standing aspirations and his established relationship with Michigan’s offensive coordinator, Chip Lindsey, whom he has known since high school. citeturn0search0

Tuttle’s appointment comes during a period of notable changes within the Michigan football program’s coaching staff. Earlier in 2024, former Michigan star quarterback Denard Robinson, who had been serving as the assistant director of player personnel since 2022, departed from the staff following an OWI arrest. citeturn0search5 Robinson has since taken on a role as the running backs coach at Lead Prep Academy, a post-graduate school with a junior-college football program based in Brighton, Michigan. citeturn0search2

Tuttle’s integration into the coaching staff is expected to provide valuable mentorship to current players, leveraging his firsthand experience as a former quarterback. His journey from player to coach exemplifies resilience and a continued commitment to the sport, offering inspiration and guidance to the Wolverines as they prepare for the upcoming season.

The Michigan football community has welcomed Tuttle’s transition, anticipating that his insights and experiences will contribute positively to the development of the team’s wide receivers and overall offensive strategy. As the Wolverines gear up for spring practice, Tuttle’s presence on the coaching staff underscores the program’s dedication to fostering leadership and continuity within its ranks.
