Iowa defeats sixth-seeded Michigan St. 74-61 in the Big 10 tournament with 21 points from Olson and 24 turnovers.

**Iowa Upsets Sixth-Seeded Michigan State 74-61 in Big Ten Tournament**

In a stunning Big Ten Tournament victory, the 11th-seeded Iowa Hawkeyes took down sixth-seeded Michigan State 74-61, capitalizing on a dominant defensive performance and forcing an astonishing 24 turnovers. Freshman standout Owen Olson led the charge with 21 points, while the Spartans struggled to maintain possession and find rhythm against Iowa’s relentless pressure.

From the opening tip, Iowa set the tone with aggressive defense, disrupting Michigan State’s offense and converting turnovers into transition points. The Hawkeyes took advantage of sloppy ball control, turning live-ball giveaways into easy baskets. Michigan State’s usually disciplined backcourt was rattled, with multiple players committing costly errors that stalled any potential momentum.

Offensively, Olson was a consistent force, showcasing his ability to score at all three levels. Whether driving to the rim, knocking down mid-range jumpers, or spacing the floor with perimeter shooting, he proved too difficult for Michigan State’s defense to contain. His energy and confidence were contagious, igniting Iowa’s entire squad.

Despite Michigan State’s size advantage, Iowa found ways to win the rebounding battle and control second-chance opportunities. The Spartans, known for their physicality, were unable to impose their will inside due to Iowa’s hustle and timely box-outs.

Michigan State made a late push in the second half, cutting a double-digit deficit to single digits with under eight minutes to play. However, each time the Spartans appeared to be closing in, Iowa responded with clutch shooting and disciplined play. Senior guards provided steady leadership, limiting their own mistakes and knocking down key free throws to keep Michigan State at bay.

The story of the game remained the 24 turnovers by the Spartans, an uncharacteristic performance for a Tom Izzo-coached team. Every attempt at a comeback was undone by a bad pass, an errant dribble, or a well-timed Iowa steal. The Hawkeyes capitalized, converting those mistakes into a significant chunk of their scoring.

With the victory, Iowa advances to the next round, carrying momentum and confidence after an impressive upset. Michigan State, on the other hand, will have to regroup and hope their overall résumé is enough to secure an NCAA Tournament bid despite the disappointing exit.
