Ohio State football has welcomed back a familiar face, as **Taver Johnson** is returning to the Buckeyes’ coaching staff as a **defensive analyst**. This marks Johnson’s third stint with the program, reinforcing Ohio State’s commitment to bringing in experienced minds to enhance its defensive strategies.

 

#### **A Familiar Name in Columbus**

Johnson previously served as Ohio State’s **cornerbacks coach** from **2007 to 2012** under Jim Tressel and Luke Fickell. He later returned in **2018** as the **secondary coach** during Urban Meyer’s tenure. Now, in 2024, he rejoins Ryan Day’s staff in a crucial analyst role, where he will provide defensive insights and help with game planning.

 

#### **A Wealth of Coaching Experience**

With over **25 years of coaching experience**, Johnson has built a strong reputation as a defensive specialist. He has held key coaching roles at **Arkansas, Purdue, and Temple**, along with NFL experience as an **assistant defensive backs coach for the Cleveland Browns** in 2004. His most recent position was at **Eastern Michigan**, where he served as the **defensive coordinator and cornerbacks coach**.

 

Johnson’s extensive experience with defensive schemes and player development makes him a valuable addition to Ohio State’s staff. As a defensive analyst, he won’t be directly coaching players on the field but will assist in breaking down film, game planning, and providing critical insights to the defensive coaching staff.

Ohio State’s defense has been a focal point of improvement under **defensive coordinator Jim Knowles**, and Johnson’s return adds another veteran voice to the mix.
