Huskers Fall to Louisville: Coach Blames Offensive Woes on Freshman Guard Britt Prince as Key Factor To NCAA Exit

In a closely contested NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament first-round game, the Nebraska Cornhuskers were edged out by the Louisville Cardinals with a final score of 63-58. The match, held at Schollmaier Arena in Fort Worth, Texas, saw Nebraska leading 56-52 with just four minutes remaining. However, Louisville’s late-game surge secured their advancement to the second round.

Freshman guard Britt Prince delivered a commendable performance for Nebraska, contributing 14 points, six assists, and three rebounds. Despite her efforts, the game concluded with Prince fouling out in the final minute after being called for an offensive foul during a critical drive to the basket.

Post-game, Nebraska head coach Amy Williams expressed pride in her team’s effort and resilience throughout the season. She acknowledged the challenges faced, including season-ending injuries to key players, and commended the team’s determination and growth. Williams emphasized the collective nature of the game and refrained from attributing the loss to any individual player.

Statistically, Nebraska shot 44.2% from the field, including 40% from three-point range. Louisville, despite shooting 37.3% overall and 21.1% from beyond the arc, capitalized on a 24-13 turnover margin and a 39-35 rebounding edge, leading to a significant 27-5 advantage in points off turnovers.

Louisville’s victory propels them to the second round, where they will face second-seeded TCU. The Cardinals’ ability to perform under pressure was evident in their late-game execution against Nebraska.

Nebraska concludes their season with a 21-12 record, marking their 20th 20-win season in program history and their third NCAA Tournament appearance in the past four years. The team’s perseverance, especially in light of injuries to key players, underscores a foundation for future success.
