The Gonzaga Bulldogs are exploring the transfer portal to bolster their roster for the upcoming 2025-26 season. Among the potential targets is Mookie Cook, a 6-foot-7 sophomore forward from Oregon, who recently entered the transfer portal.
Cook was a highly regarded four-star recruit and a McDonald’s All-American during his high school career at AZ Compass Prep in Arizona. His initial commitment to Oregon was influenced by Gonzaga’s strong interest, as the Bulldogs were among his notable finalists. However, his tenure with the Ducks was hampered by injuries, including ankle surgery that sidelined him for the first 13 games of his freshman year and a subsequent re-aggravation of the same injury. In the 2024-25 season, Cook appeared in 24 games, averaging 4.3 minutes per game.
Gonzaga’s interest in Cook aligns with their strategy to strengthen the forward position, especially considering recent roster changes. Notably, sophomore guard Dusty Stromer has entered the transfer portal after two seasons with the Bulldogs.
In addition to Cook, Gonzaga is monitoring other players in the transfer portal. Bobby Durkin, a 6-foot-7 sophomore guard from Davidson, averaged 13.5 points and 5.9 rebounds per game in the 2024-25 season. Durkin has a connection to Gonzaga through his high school teammate, Braden Huff.
The Bulldogs are also considering Michael Rataj, a 6-foot-9 junior forward from Oregon State, who averaged 16.9 points and 7.2 rebounds per game, earning First Team All-WCC honors.
As the transfer portal remains active, Gonzaga’s coaching staff is diligently evaluating these prospects to enhance their roster for the upcoming season.
