Michigan’s men’s basketball program has secured a significant addition with the transfer of Elliot Cadeau from the University of North Carolina. Cadeau, a 6-foot-2 guard from West Orange, New Jersey, announced his commitment to the Wolverines on March 31, 2025. This move is expected to bolster Michigan’s backcourt under the leadership of head coach Dusty May.

Cadeau’s basketball journey began at Bergen Catholic High School in New Jersey before he transferred to Link Academy in Branson, Missouri. At Link Academy, he showcased his exceptional skills as a point guard, leading his team to a GEICO Nationals championship in 2023. During the semifinals of that tournament, Cadeau was named the ESPN Chevrolet Player of the Game and set records for the most assists in a single game (14) and throughout the tournament (29).

In December 2022, Cadeau committed to North Carolina as a five-star recruit, drawn by the program’s winning culture and family atmosphere. He officially joined the Tar Heels in May 2023, reclassifying to the class of 2023 to start his collegiate career earlier. citeturn0search1 During his sophomore season at UNC, Cadeau started all 37 games, averaging 9.4 points, 6.2 assists, and 2.9 rebounds per game. His performance was instrumental in helping North Carolina secure a spot in the NCAA Tournament.

Cadeau’s decision to transfer to Michigan aligns with his desire to continue developing under a program that emphasizes strong guard play and offers opportunities for leadership on the court. At Michigan, he is expected to take on a pivotal role in the team’s offense, utilizing his playmaking abilities and court vision to elevate the Wolverines’ performance in the competitive Big Ten Conference.

Off the court, Cadeau comes from an athletic family; his father was an avid tennis player, and his older brother, Justin, plays college tennis at Howard University. Notably, Elliot has congenital hearing loss and is deaf in his right ear, a challenge he has adeptly managed throughout his basketball career.

As Michigan prepares for the upcoming season, the addition of a player of Cadeau’s caliber is a promising development. His experience, leadership, and dynamic skill set are anticipated to make a significant impact, potentially positioning the Wolverines as strong contenders in the national landscape.
