**Former Cardinals Recruit Nyla Harris Commits to UNC Women’s Basketball**

Nyla Harris, a standout sophomore ranked No. 34 overall in the 2026 class, has officially committed to the University of North Carolina, choosing the Tar Heels over top-tier programs including Louisville, Tennessee, and BYU. A five-star recruit known for her athleticism, versatility, and high basketball IQ, Harris was previously committed to the Louisville Cardinals before reopening her recruitment earlier this year.

Standing at 6-foot-2, Harris has been a dominant force in high school and on the AAU circuit with the Five-Star Elites, where she showcased her ability to impact both ends of the floor. She plays primarily as a forward but has the skill set to operate comfortably on the perimeter, making her a matchup nightmare for opponents. Her rebounding, defensive instincts, and ability to finish around the rim have drawn comparisons to elite collegiate forwards and placed her among the most coveted prospects in her class.

Harris’s decision to decommit from Louisville came as a surprise to many, as the Cardinals were seen as a long-time frontrunner. However, sources close to her recruitment suggest that UNC’s coaching staff, led by head coach Courtney Banghart, made a lasting impression. The Tar Heels emphasized player development, academic support, and a clear vision for Harris’s role in their system—factors that played a key role in her final decision.

“I’m excited to be a part of the Carolina family,” Harris said in a statement. “Coach Banghart and the staff believe in me and have a plan to help me grow as a player and a person. I can’t wait to wear that Carolina blue and represent this amazing program.”

Her commitment is a huge win for UNC, which continues to build a strong foundation for the future. Harris adds depth, versatility, and star power to a program that’s been steadily climbing the ranks in the competitive ACC. With several other top recruits considering Chapel Hill, Harris’s decision could spark momentum on the recruiting trail.

As for Louisville, Tennessee, and BYU, missing out on Harris is a tough blow, but all remain active in the 2026 recruiting cycle and will pivot to other high-profile targets. For now, all eyes are on Nyla Harris and what she’ll bring to Tar Heel Nation in the coming seasons.
