2026 Safety Recruit: No.1 In-State Prospect CJ Sanna Announces Full Commitment, Choosing the Buckeyes Over SEC Powerhouses

The Ohio State Buckeyes continue to dominate the recruiting trail, securing a massive in-state victory as 2026’s No. 1 safety and top Ohio prospect, CJ Sanna, has officially committed to Ohio State. The 6-foot-2, 195-pound standout from Cleveland made his decision public Monday afternoon, choosing the Buckeyes over heavy interest from top SEC programs including Alabama, Georgia, and LSU.

Sanna, a game-changing defensive back known for his elite range, high football IQ, and physicality in the secondary, becomes the crown jewel of Ohio State’s 2026 class thus far. His commitment marks a pivotal win for head coach Ryan Day and defensive coordinator Jim Knowles, who have made in-state recruiting a priority as they continue to rebuild a dominant defensive identity in Columbus.

“I’ve always dreamed of wearing the scarlet and gray,” Sanna said during his announcement. “Ohio State is home. The tradition, the coaching staff, the fans — it just felt right. They’ve been recruiting me hard from the beginning, and I feel like I can come in and make an immediate impact.”

Sanna’s recruitment was a national battle from the start. After a breakout sophomore season that saw him record 85 tackles, 5 interceptions, and multiple forced fumbles, he quickly rose up recruiting boards across the country. His performances at camps and 7-on-7 tournaments only solidified his five-star status, earning offers from virtually every major program in the country.

Ohio State’s ability to keep Sanna home is not only a statement about their recruiting prowess, but also a clear signal that top-tier talent from Ohio still believes in the Buckeyes’ championship vision. Sanna joins a growing 2026 class that is already ranked among the top nationally, and his leadership both on and off the field is expected to play a key role in shaping the future of the program.

“I want to be part of something special,” Sanna added. “We’re going to bring a national title back to Columbus.”

With his commitment, CJ Sanna becomes not just a future Buckeye — but the face of a class loaded with promise. For Ohio State, the mission is clear: keep the best talent at home and build a defense that brings the Silver Bullets back to national prominence.
