Michigan State University has suffered a significant loss with junior guard Tre Holloman’s decision to transfer to North Carolina State University. Holloman, a key contributor to the Spartans’ successful 2024–25 season, announced his commitment to the Wolfpack via social media on April 13, 2025
During his junior year, Holloman played in 37 games, starting 16, and averaged career highs with 9.1 points, 3.7 assists, and 23.1 minutes per game. His performance was instrumental in Michigan State’s Big Ten Championship win and their advancement to the Elite Eight in the NCAA Tournament. Notably, he scored a career-high 20 points in a decisive victory over Michigan on March 9, 2025
Holloman’s transfer comes as NC State undergoes a significant roster overhaul under new head coach Will Wade, formerly of LSU and McNeese State. The Wolfpack have seen seven players enter the transfer portal, prompting Wade to actively recruit new talent. In addition to Holloman, NC State has secured transfers Alyn Breed and Quadier Copeland, as well as commitments from high school recruits Matthew Able and Zymicah Wilkins
Holloman’s move to NC State presents an opportunity for him to take on a more prominent role. Known for his playmaking abilities, he recorded 137 assists last season, boasting an assist rate of 29.5%, which ranked 76th nationally. His efficient free-throw shooting, at 85.1%, further underscores his offensive capability
For Michigan State, Holloman’s departure leaves a void in the backcourt. His leadership and consistency were valuable assets, and the Spartans will need to look to other players to fill the gap as they prepare for the upcoming season.
As Holloman embarks on this new chapter with the Wolfpack, both programs will be closely watched to see how they adapt to these changes and strive for success in the 2025–26 season.
