The Michigan Wolverines have made a significant addition to their basketball roster with the commitment of Yaxel Lendeborg, a standout forward from UAB. Standing at 6-foot-9 and weighing 240 pounds, Lendeborg is recognized as one of the top players in the transfer portal, bringing a wealth of talent and experience to Ann Arbor.
During the 2024–25 season at UAB, Lendeborg delivered an exceptional performance, averaging 17.7 points, 11.4 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 1.8 blocks, and 1.7 steals per game. He led the NCAA with 26 double-doubles and became only the second player in Division I history—alongside Larry Bird—to record over 600 points, 400 rebounds, and 150 assists in a single season.
Lendeborg’s accolades include back-to-back American Athletic Conference (AAC) Defensive Player of the Year awards, AAC Tournament MVP honors, and a spot on the Naismith Men’s College Player of the Year watch list. His defensive prowess and versatility make him a valuable asset for the Wolverines.
Despite his commitment to Michigan, Lendeborg is also exploring the 2025 NBA Draft. He is aiming for a guaranteed contract and is currently ranked No. 28 on ESPN’s draft board. His final decision on whether to join the Wolverines or pursue a professional career will be determined by the NBA Draft withdrawal deadline on June 15.
If Lendeborg joins Michigan, he will be part of a formidable frontcourt alongside incoming talents like Morez Johnson and Aday Mara. Under the guidance of new head coach Dusty May, the Wolverines are poised to be a top contender in the upcoming season.
Lendeborg’s potential addition to the Michigan roster not only enhances the team’s competitiveness but also solidifies its position as a powerhouse in college basketbal.
