Michigan quarterback Alex Orji has announced his decision to transfer from the Wolverines football program. This move comes in the wake of Michigan securing the commitment of Bryce Underwood, the nation’s top-ranked recruit, which could potentially alter Orji’s role on the team.

 

Orji, a junior, started three games in the 2024 season, amassing 260 rushing yards and one touchdown. He also completed 23 of 44 passes, throwing for one touchdown and one interception. His departure follows the retirement of fellow quarterback Jack Tuttle, who stepped away from football due to multiple concussions.

 

The addition of Bryce Underwood to Michigan’s roster has had a significant impact on the team’s quarterback dynamics. Underwood, originally committed to LSU, flipped his commitment to Michigan, influenced by a substantial NIL deal facilitated by Champions Circle, with support from figures like Oracle founder Larry Ellison and former Wolverine Tom Brady.
