“Nebraska Women’s Coach Expresses Doubts Over Victory Against Rivals Amidst Major Injury Shake-Up”

Nebraska women’s basketball coach Amy Williams has expressed concerns about her team’s upcoming matchup against Louisville, citing significant challenges arising from recent injuries. The Huskers, who earned a No. 10 seed in the NCAA Tournament’s Birmingham 3 Region, are set to face the No. 7 seed Cardinals on Friday, March 21, 2025, at Schollmaier Arena in Fort Worth, Texas.

The season has been particularly tough for Nebraska, as they have been without their leading scorer and rebounder, sophomore Natalie Potts, since November. Potts suffered a season-ending ACL tear during a game against North Alabama on November 19, 2024. At the time of her injury, she was averaging 17.5 points and 8.0 rebounds per game.

Compounding the team’s challenges, redshirt junior guard Allison Weidner also sustained a season-ending injury in January. Weidner’s absence has further strained the Huskers’ lineup, forcing the team to adapt and rely on less experienced players.

Despite these setbacks, Nebraska has shown resilience. Senior center Alexis Markowski leads the team with averages of 16.5 points and 7.9 rebounds per game. Freshman point guard Britt Prince has also stepped up, contributing 13.4 points, 3.7 assists, and 1.7 steals per game.

Coach Williams acknowledges the formidable task ahead against Louisville, a team coached by her former mentor, Jeff Walz. She expressed excitement about the matchup but also recognized the challenges posed by her team’s injury-depleted roster. The Huskers’ ability to overcome these adversities will be crucial as they aim to advance in the tournament.

In summary, Nebraska’s upcoming game against Louisville is overshadowed by the team’s struggle with significant injuries. Coach Williams remains hopeful but realistic about the challenges, emphasizing the need for her players to adapt and support each other in the face of adversity.
