Ladies and gentlemen, we have a winner in the “Bigger Whiner than Ryan Day” sweeptstakes, and it’s former Florida State wide receiver, Keon Coleman.
Coleman, who was just drafted by the Buffalo Bills in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft, tried his best to justify why he and his teammates essentially quit on their program and their coach en route to a massive record-breaking blowout loss to Georgia.
We can now add to the list of excuses why Florida State was obliterated in the Orange Bowl by the Dawgs, “Georgia lost to Alabama”.
“If (Georgia) would have won (against Alabama), you would have found out who was better between Florida State and Georgia,” Coleman said on a podcast appearance, retweeted by Tykee Smith. “You would have played us in the ‘matter bowl.’ In a bowl that mattered. We’re not going to play y’all in a bowl that don’t matter. That’s a waste of time.
“If y’all would have won (against Alabama) and did what y’all were supposed to do, y’all would have would have had to see us. We would have been doing that (Tomahawk Chop) the whole time. All of that barking, we would have put a spear straight through you. Ain’t no barking, that’s dead. You would have found out, but the world may never know because Georgia decided to lose (to Alabama). We should question their toughness to Bama. How do y’all keep choking?”
So, let’s see if we have this straight, Mr. Coleman.
Florida State — one of the premier football programs in the country (despite recent struggles prior to the 2023 season) — needs to be motivated and have a reason to show up to games and give their all?
It’s not about pride in your school, pride in what you do and how you do it, pride in your coach or your teammates, or pride in yourself. Those are just silly, outdated reasons to show up and give effort, is that it?
Good to know that’s how you feel, and I’m sure your Buffalo Bills teammates — especially James Cook, Tre’ McKitty, and Sedrick Van Pran-Granger — will find that very interesting. Doubtful you’ll be winning a lot of support in the locker room with that attitude, sir.
The truth, and we’re talking real truth here, is that Florida State was simply outmanned by Georgia in every facet of the game, up and down the roster. Even if injured quarterback Jordan Travis had been healthy and playing, the Seminoles simply weren’t on the same level with the Bulldogs.
Mike Norvell has done an admirable job rebuilding FSU into a contending program once again, but one season that was derailed because half the team decided it “wasn’t worth it” to show up and play, does not put you on the list of potential champions or give you any cause to beat your chest and crow about what would have been.
