CLEVELAND — In Ohio’s Statehouse, two legislators from the Cincinnati and Dayton areas are once again attempting to convince Major League Baseball to lift Pete Rose’s lifetime ban from baseball and make him eligible for induction to its Hall of Fame in Cooperstown. In 2004, after years of denial, Rose finally admitted he gambled on baseball as a player-manager for the Cincinnati Reds. He said he never bet on his team to lose.

Rose was one of my favorite players growing up. I loved his approach to the game as much as I do the Guardians José Ramírez’s today. Most of what I knew about him was from newspaper box scores and baseball cards, but I liked what I saw.
