MSU Land 2025 Five-Star Elite Guard Cam Ward Pledges and Committed To Spartans Basketball Overpowers Louisville,Tennessee Vols and Alabama

Michigan State University has secured a significant commitment from Cam Ward, a highly touted 6-foot-8, 225-pound wing from Largo High School in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. Ward, a four-star recruit ranked No. 54 nationally and No. 12 among small forwards by 247 Sports, chose the Spartans over offers from Kansas State, Maryland, and Virginia.

Ward’s decision was influenced by the strong relationship he developed with MSU’s coaching staff, particularly head coach Tom Izzo. He cited the family atmosphere and the detailed plan Izzo presented for his development as key factors in his commitment. Ward noted that Izzo compared his potential to that of former Spartans who have succeeded in the NBA, such as Draymond Green and Miles Bridges.

During his junior year, Ward showcased his versatility and athleticism, averaging 26.0 points, 11.5 rebounds, 2.7 steals, 2.1 blocks, and 2.4 assists per game. His performance earned him the Gatorade Player of the Year honor in Maryland and led Largo High School to a Class 2A state title.

Ward’s commitment adds to Michigan State’s impressive 2025 recruiting class, joining fellow four-star recruit Jordan Scott from South Lakes High School in Reston, Virginia. Scott, a 6-foot-7 wing, is ranked No. 52 nationally and No. 9 among small forwards by 247 Sports. Both players are expected to bring significant talent and depth to the Spartans’ roster.

Scouting reports highlight Ward’s strong frame, length, and athleticism. He is particularly effective in transition, finishing above the rim in traffic, and has a keen nose for production on the boards. While his strength lies in playing downhill toward the rim, continued development in ball-handling and perimeter shooting will enhance his versatility on the court.

Ward’s basketball lineage is notable; he plays under the guidance of his father, Rodney Ward, who serves as his high school coach, while his mother, Ayana Ball-Ward, is the school’s athletic director. This familial support system has been instrumental in his development both on and off the court.

With Ward’s commitment, Michigan State continues to build a formidable roster aimed at competing at the highest levels of college basketball. His addition is expected to contribute significantly to the Spartans’ pursuit of future championships.
